Step 1: Find a place to sit without distractions. Think about what is important to you then get your paper and pencil and make a list. This list should include things that you would like to accomplish. Keep it short。

Step 2: Make a realistic deadline. Put some time aside every day to work toward your goal. It doesn’t have to be much — maybe only an hour. The important thing is that for that hour you focus solely on completing your task, nothing else should be on your mind. You’ll be surprised at what you can accomplish when you focus。

Step 3: Don’t be too hard on yourself. If you focus only on your failures or tasks that you still need to accomplish, you’ll get overwhelmed and/or depressed and you’ll never accomplish anything。

Q: I am doing a master’s degree in accounting and have completed my first semester. Now I’m thinking of shifting to actuarial studies, as I don’t find accounting very exciting. In the current economy, should I pursue something I feel passionate about or go for a field with more job security?

A: Job security is extremely hard to come by these days, no matter what profession you choose. It isn’t enough to pursue a field with perceived stability, say the experts. You’ll want to find something you feel passionate about, can make a living doing and that involves using skills you can easily apply to other fields。

　　Sustainable Circles Corp。 Sustainable Circles Corp。

’Passion is a necessary but not sufficient condition for success in the workplace,’ says James Elsen, president and chief executive officer of Sustainable Circles Corp., publisher of sustainlane.com, a ‘green living’ guide that includes job listings. ‘Pursuing what you love will give you access to creativity and energy that you would not otherwise be able to tap while slogging to a job you are indifferent about.’

Bear in mind that since you’re only one semester in, it may be too early to rule out accounting. Give yourself some more time and become an expert in the field so you can make an educated decision about whether it’s right for you, suggests Paul Herrerias, a managing director at executive-consulting firm Stanton Chase International. Talk to people working in the field and join networking groups on sites like LinkedIn.com, for example. ‘You can’t get excited about something you know nothing about,’ he says。

Don’t discount the virtues of a degree in a high-demand field such as accounting, especially in the current economy, adds Amy Nichols, founder and CEO of Dogtopia, a chain of upscale dog daycare and spa facilities. ‘Having a broader degree is more valuable in times like these,’ she says。

在 Verizon(后来成为Bell Atlantic)供职的五年当中，她从事过四份不同的岗位。

Ms. Nichols got her degree in psychology and worked in the telecom industry for years before pursuing a career that caters to her passion for dogs. In the five years she was with Verizon (then Bell Atlantic)， she held four different positions. By working for a large company, she says she received invaluable training and experience that she might never have obtained if she tried to striking out on her own right after college. And without the credibility and knowledge she gained, securing a business loan might have been an impossibility, she says. ‘[Accounting] might not be that thrilling or exciting, but you need to have those skills to run a successful business,’ she says。

In the mean time, nothing should stop you from pursuing your interests on the side while working a 9-to-5 job to pay the bills, says Ms. Nichols. Stow away some money for a future business or career change。

Whichever way you go, it seems you’ll be choosing well, at least according to a recent study released from CareerCast.com ranking the best and worst occupations in the U.S. Both accounting and actuarial science made it into the top 10; actuary came in second place and accounting came in tenth。

How much time are you available?
We are one of the top 3 private label suppliers in the global market. Our producing capacity is more than 50,000,000,000,000/units each week. Furthermore, you know, the knowledge and [...]

We are one of the top 3 private label suppliers in the global market. Our producing capacity is more than 50,000,000,000,000/units each week. Furthermore, you know, the knowledge and the know-how sometimes is more important than the machines and equipments. Fortunately, we have accumulated enough producing and management know-how from our long-term co-operation with XXXX company. I am sure we can help you to reduce your international sourcing costs, we can help you to increase your bottom line. just let me know how I can create value.

How can you evaluate your suppliers? 很多客户不愿意直接回答你，因为确实太难了，你可以补充一句, just generally speaking, not the detailed principles. What’s your purchasing plan for next season?

How many stores does your company have?

Do you distribute your goods only in your domestic market? Or in the whole Europe? Which country is your biggest market?

What do you think about the trade show? Did you find everything which you need exactly?

Our quality is very good. We have supplied our products for XXXXX company for 5 years, and XXXX company is quiet satisfied for our quality. So I believe we can meet or exceed your quality requirements.

While some 13 million Americans are out of work these days, those still with jobs might have a strange new thing to worry about–getting a promotion can be bad for you, a new study suggests。

British researchers found that when people get promoted, they suffer on average about 10 percent more mental strain and are less likely to find the time to go to the doctor。

”Getting a promotion at work is not as great as many people think. Our research finds that the mental health of managers typically deteriorates after a job promotion, and in a way that goes beyond merely a short-term change,” said Chris Boyce of the University of Warwick. “There are no indications of any health improvements for promoted people other than reduced attendance at GP surgeries [i.e. doctors visits], which may itself be something to worry about rather than celebrate.”

Other research has found stress can be deadly, raising the risk of everything from the common cold to cancer. Other recent revelations about stress:

　　* Stress makes us forget things.

　　* Happily married women suffer less stress.

　　* Job stress in particular has been shown to fuel disease.

Those who were promoted reported on average a 20 percent fall in their visits to a doctor following their promotion. The researchers figure this owed to the stress of the new job and the sudden lack of time。

The research, using data from an annual survey of Brits, included information about about 1,000 people who had been promoted. The findings will be presented later this month at a conference of the Royal Economic Society。

　　Emotional Intelligence

Ever since Daniel Goleman wrote Emotional Intelligence, the subject seems to have made its way into success literature all over the world. But what exactly is emotional intelligence and why is it so important?

Well, the “why” is quite clear. Many people find themselves successful in all the traditional ways (i.e. with money and all its flashy friends) but still not satisfied. Creating meaning in life requires strong relationships and doing so requires emotional intelligence。

So, how does one go about creating a greater sense of emotional intelligence? In this post, I will outline the twelve aspects involved and offer brief descriptions of each:

Awareness. Recognising individual emotions as they occur, understanding why they occur, and understanding the effects (both good and bad) they have on you。

Control. Resisting impulses and urges (delaying gratification)， remaining calm even as chaos ensues, and always thinking clearly when those around you can’t。

Assessment. Knowing strengths and weaknesses, learning from mistakes, and constantly striving to build on what you have in an attempt to make yourself better。

Vision. Creating a sense of direction in your life, having the foresight to anticipate problems/needs before they arise, and paying attention to the details。

Creativity. Thinking outside the box, developing a tolerance for ambiguity, and maintaining an openness to change。

Innovation. Seeking out unconventional solutions to problems, keeping an open mind to novelty in the world, and applying creativity in practical ways。

Ambition. Setting tough but attainable goals, constantly raising the bar in pursuit of excellence, and feeding the need for achievement whenever you can。

Initiative. Taking the first step when opportunity arises, never sitting back because it’s not in your “job description”, and bending the rules (occasionally) when it comes to making progress。

Conscientiousness. Accepting responsibility for personal performance, adopting a focused approach in your work, and understanding that nobody else is to blame for your shortcomings。

Adaptability. Admitting when you’ve failed, remaining flexible in the face of obstacles, and never being too stubborn to change。

Independence. Living with an unshakable sense of who you are, making your own decisions in the face of peer pressure, and acting despite tremendous risk and doubt。

Optimism. Understanding we all make mistakes, choosing to persist no matter how many times you’ve failed, and always remaining hopeful that success is just around the corner。

Those of you who are familiar with Zen Habits know that a great way to create a habit is to do so in a month-long trial. Start at the top of the list and work your way down over the next year. Or simply choose whichever you feel will benefit you most right now and take it from there。

For example, to create a greater sense of awareness you could start meditating, even if it’s for only five minutes a day. For assessment, you could take some time off to be alone with your thoughts, by treating yourself to a solo lunch or spending the afternoon at a local park. Or just drive to work with the radio off。

Slowly but surely, you’ll begin to see the changes. As long as you take the time to really imprint these new behaviours they’re bound to stick and you’re bound to feel the difference。

Maybe you’re feeling down because of the financial crisis. Maybe you’re feeling overwhelmed by holiday tasks. Or maybe you’re just having a lousy day。

If so, you can make yourself happier–right now. In the next thirty minutes, check off as many of the following items as possible. Each one will lift your mood, as will the mere fact that you’ve tackled and achieved some concrete goals; by doing so, you boost your feelings of self-efficacy, which can boost happiness。

　　1. Boost your energy.

Stand up and pace while you talk on the phone or, even better, take a brisk ten-minute walk outside. Research shows that when people move faster, their metabolism speeds up, and the activity and sunlight are good for your focus, your mood, and the retention of information. Plus, because of “emotional contagion”, if you act energetic, you’ll help the people around you feel energetic, too。

　　2. Count your blessings.

Take ten minutes to think about all the things in your life that are going right, about all the things that other people do to help you, about all the things that you’re thankful for. In the tumult of everyday life, it’s very easy to focus on the negative and to lose sight of what really matters。

　　3. Reach out to friends.

Make a lunch date or send an email to a friend you haven’t seen in a while. Having warm, close bonds with other people is the KEY to happiness, so take the time to stay in touch. Somewhat surprisingly, socializing boosts the moods not only of extroverts, but also of introverts。

　　4. Perform an action that reflects your values.

Do you think organ donation is a good idea? Sign up online to be one yourself; it takes less than a minute. Worried about climate change? Refill your water bottle from the tap instead of buying a couple of bottles throughout the day. The First Splendid Truth holds that to work on happiness, we should think about feeling good, feeling bad, and feeling right, in an atmosphere of growth. Living up to your values will help you “feel right”。

　　5. Rid yourself of a nagging task.

Answer a difficult email, do an errand you’ve been putting off, or call to make that dentist’s appointment. Crossing an irksome chore off your to-do list will give you a big rush of energy and relief。

　　6. Create a calmer environment.

Clear some physical and mental space around yourself by sorting papers, pitching junk, cleaning a closet, answering a few emails, filing, or even just making your piles neater. A large stack of little tasks can feel overwhelming, but often just a few minutes of work can make a sizeable dent. Try to get in the habit of using the “one minute rule”–i.e., never postpone any task that can be completed in less than one minute. And always make your bed in the morning!

　　7. Lay the groundwork for some future fun.

Order a book you’ve been wanting to read (not something you think you should read) or plan an excursion to a museum, hiking trail, sporting event, gardening store, movie theater–whatever sounds like fun. Studies show that having fun on a regular basis is a pillar of happiness, and anticipation is an important part of that pleasure. Try to involve friends or family, as well; people enjoy almost all activities more when they’re with other people than when they’re alone。

　　8. Do a good deed.

Make an email introduction of two people who could help each other, or set up a blind date, or shoot someone a piece of useful information or gratifying praise. Do good, feel good–this really works. Also, although we often believe that we act because of the way we feel, in fact, we often feel because of the way we act. When you act in a friendly way, you’ll strengthen your feelings of friendliness for other people。

What other strategies have you tried to give yourself a happiness boost?

Using effective questioning

Using effective questioning

What are you hoping to achieve today?

　　Recovering from offending someone

If I seemed sharp a few moments ago, be assured that it was only due to my determination to make this work.”

　　Showing humility

I’ m right, you’ re wrong”的情形。

That’ s more your area of expertise than mine, so I’ d like to hear more.”

　　Recovering from negotiation breakdown

What happened last week was unacceptable as it was unintentional. Shall we move on?”In business, skilled negotiation can be the difference between making a million dollar contract and being fired。

Nowadays things aren’t going smooth. College graduates are having a hard time finding jobs as there are too few job openings, while those who do have jobs are facing staff cutting and salary reduction. In the past many people with jobs coveted better jobs, literally “keeping one eye the bowl and the other on the pan.” The situation now can be described as “many people are grabbing for one bowl”. Many people are holding fast their bowls–even though they are wood ones which cannot compare with unbreakable iron bowls or luxurious gold bowls–lest other people should grab them awyay。

To effectively protect their bowls, many people are trying their utternost to give a good impression of themselves. In addition to conscientiously doing their assigned duty well, many people voluntarily take up many other duties not assigned to them, busy from morning till night like a wound clock. Well, comrades, you see, we do appreciate the attitude of taking such initiative in work! However, somethimes one should not overdo things…Confucius says that “going beyong the limit is just as wrong as falling short”. That is to say, both doing too much and doing too little are open to discussion alike。

A former classmate of mine, for example, was so exited when he got his first job that he simply regarded the company with so much affection as his own home. He worked overtime of his own accord and did not go home till very late in the evening. He even dawdled there at weekends, when he had to do with instant noodles as the company’s mess hall was not open on holidays. He voluntarily took up many odd jobs, including sending express mails. He expected that his behavior would leave a good impression on his boss and be the top among all the new hands, thus getting promoted as the first one among them。

He didn’t expect that the boss would speak to him some time later like this:” I always see you in your office. I wonder if your spare-time life has been very dull. A young man should go out and see the world when free and make friends with you peers. If you just live a shut-youself-up life, you cannot keep your working enthusiasm for long, so it won’t last long. Besides, if you prolong your work hours and take up everything and help everyboby without discrimination, you won’t be able to concentrate on your own work efficiently.”

On hearing this, my friend went dumbfounded. He had never expected that his painstakingly designed show would leave his boss with such a poor impression. As a matter of fact, things in working places are often unreasonable like this. You believed that your working overtime would be approved by your boss. However, it may turn out that your boss thought you were perhaps doing some private job by making use of the company’s resources, because he believed that you should be able to finish the work assigned to you within your work hours. You thought your colleagues would appreciate your devotion to work, but they might feel your hardworking exerts too much pressure on their part. Some of them might even make some cynical remarks。

The duration and degree of heating are very important if doing your job is compared to cooking soup in a boiler. High degree of heating or pungent seasoning cannot ensure the good taste of the soup. Sometimes overheated behavior would be seen as “making a deleberate show off” and cause misgivings on the part of others as they would think you were crafty, thus doubting your talent and character。

So I would advise you to knock off when it comes to quitting time so as to keep in step with your colleagues and bear the same pressure with them. If you find that you are always the last one to ture off the light in your office, it is high time you thought over seriously how you could avoid being the last one。

You have to show that you are giving 110% of yourself all the time. If you are going to show up at work, show up and do it well, don’t just do it half way. Put your entire self into it。

Look your best.Take the extra time necessary to really look your own personal best and everyone has their own, when I say personal best I mean you know what your own personal best is. Strive for that everyday。

Strive for a very positive attitude. When you walk into a room, people want to be around you. When your boss sees that you show up and you are consistent and you are excited and enthusiastic about what you are doing, they also can’t help but notice that the people around you are, I don’t want to say turned on, but the people around you feed off your positive energy and then they want to do a better job. It really is sort of a chain reaction。

I would say that step 1 for impressing your boss is to be enthused about what you are doing and to put your whole self into it everyday。
